The PhDArts website has been renewed and expanded to accommodate the growing archive of projects by PhDArts staff, doctoral students, and doctors. The website and the PhDArts visual identity were created by Tomáš Celizna and Mevis & Van Deursen in 2011.
Tomáš Celizna (CZ, 1977) is a designer based in Amsterdam. Celizna has designed and developed websites, publications, visual identities, and software applications for cultural, architectural, and educational institutions and organizations internationally, including, among others, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, ETH Zürich, Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Amsterdam; PLATO, Ostrava and Krabbesholm Højskole, Denmark. An occasional curator, he has co-curated the 25th, 26th, and 27th International Biennial of Graphic Design in Brno (2012–16), a major international platform focused on graphic design for over fifty years. Celizna is a tutor at the Graphic Design department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, since 2011.
Mevis & Van Deursen was founded in 1986. They developed visual identities for amongst others Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam (2003–2007), International Architecture Biennale in Rotterdam (2009), Architecture Biennale in Venice (2010), and Muziektheater Amsterdam and Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam (2012). They designed a number of publications for artists, designers and architects like Rineke Dijkstra, Aernout Mik, Alexander van Slobbe, Marijke van Warmerdam, Carlos Amorales, Sanja Ivekovic and SANAA Architects, among others.
