On 24 October 2017 the public defense by visual artist Lilo Nein of the research project entitled WRITING PERFORMANCE takes place in two stages. On 24 October at 11.30 Nein will publicly elucidate her artistic work in the exhibition WRITING PERFORMANCE EXHIBITION 3 at the Gallery of the Royal Academy of Art The Hague. At 15.00 Nein will defend her dissertation in the Senate Chamber of Leiden University. She thereby obtains the doctoral degree.
Nein investigates relations between texts and performances from the perspective of visual art. With a keen interest in the documentation and the role of texts in performance she arrives at a new understanding of performance art. Nein's argumentation resonates in her artistic work, bringing the interrelatedness of text and performance into practice.
