The ‘Guava’platform’s conceptual & practical movement and its part in social/political change

Thalia Hoffman’s research project seeks to develop the “Guava” platform that she has established, which challenges the possibility of free movement and dismissal of borders in the Middle East through 'art-actions'. As an artist and filmmaker Hoffman hereby researches the most effective way to bring art practice and social-political change together.

Biography

Thalia Hoffman (1979, DE) is a visual artist working in film, video, performance and public interventions. She holds a BA in Humanities from the University of Bar-Ilan, and is an MFA graduate (with honours) in Fine Arts from the University of Haifa, where she is currently teaching.

Hoffman has directed a full length documentary (“To each his own”, 2005), and several short experimental films and is working as an independent film director and editor. In addition Hoffman works and develops social/political change programs using the agent of film and video within different communities. Another way that Hoffman approaches this is through cooking and feeding, both in professional and artistic context. All her work strives to be involved in its surroundings and engage people to look, listen and feel their social/political landscape with attention.

Hoffman’s films, video works and performances have been shown in group exhibitions and festivals in Israel and around the world.
